Dipped Look Mason Jars

Paint dipped mason jars are popular party decor, and it's no wonder why! These versatile pieces can be used for snacks, drinks, lights, and more. For our DIY backyard movie screen party, we used balloons to give our mason jars a paint-dipped look in only a fraction of the time.

For this project, you'll need:

• Mason Jars
• Scissors
• Balloons

Our balloons had a "congratulations!" graphic on them, but once the balloons were on the jars it was only noticable on the lightest colors (like yellow and white) so we skipped those. Don't be afraid to use what you already have around the house, even if it means balloons with a print!

We might have invented those 'technical terms'...but bear with us. Cutting the 'stem' off of the balloon makes the opening large enough for the jar, and cutting the 'bulb' part off prevents the final product from having a bump on the bottom which would cause the jar to wobble on the table.

The trick here is to stretch the balloon over the bottom of the jar as tightly as possible without pulling it over the edge completely. Remember, since we cut a hole in the bottom to keep the surface flat, you'll need to leave a bit of the balloon pulled over the edge. The tighter you pull the balloon, the more it looks like paint, so if it doesn't look right on your first try just take it off completely and try again.

We used 'regular' sized balloons and 1/2 pint jars to achieve this look, but if you experiment with balloon size and jar size, you can create something a little different. Try using a novelty sized balloon with a larger jar for attractive flower vases, storage vessels, and more!
