DIY Mother's Day Mason Jars

An image of all the finished projects

These DIY Mother’s Day Mason Jars are an easy, creative, time, and budget-friendly gift that your mom will find extra special because you made it! To create any of these beautiful jars follow the directions below!

Gardener in a Jar

A jar with plant seed pouches and ribbon

Perfect for the mom with a green thumb. To create this jar, we used yellow, purple, and pink Testors Craft Paint and created this fun multi-colored design. Inside the jar, we included a new gardening shovel, a stylish pair of gloves,  and some flower seeds.

Chalkboard Picture Frame Jar

This is a jar any mom will love! Print out a 3x5 picture of yourself and your mom, decide where you want the picture to go by placing it on the inside of the jar then cover that portion with 3M Painter’s tap. Use Rust-Oleum chalkboard spray paint to cover the rest of the jar and let dry completely. Now, remove the tape and lightly spray the front of the picture with Loctite Spray Adhesive (seriously, you don’t need a lot!) Gently place the picture on the inside of the jar. Once the adhesive has dried, this jar could be used to hold special trinkets or a beautiful piece of jewelry, The options are endless!

Succulent Jar

This jar is by far the simplest and the results turn out so nice! Using Krylon Sea Glass spray paint in any color, spray the entire jar and let dry. This paint is especially nice because it drys so fast! Now you can put in an easy-to-care-for succulent, add water and a beautiful bouquet of flowers, or a small potted plant (do not transplant directly into the jar as there is no drainage.)

Mom’s Favorite Things Jar

Mason jar with you mom's favorite things with glitter on the outside of the jar

For this last jar, all you need is painter’s tape and some Krylon Glitter Spray Paint. Tape up the top half of the jar and spray the bottom half with glitter paint. To avoid getting glitter on things that aren’t mason jars, we recommend placing the jar lid side down into a cardboard box and spraying outdoors or in a ventilated garage or basement. Once dry, remove the tape and fill it with, you guessed it! Mom’s favorite things! This could be nail polish, her favorite perfume, lip gloss, lotions, or a gift card to her favorite hardware store *wink, wink

Though they may seem more than human sometimes, moms are people too and no person is the same. The best thing about this DIY project is that you can tailor it to your mom and what she likes. Have fun and be creative with this just as you should with any DIY project. No matter what you create for your mom this Mother's Day, it will be extra special because you made it!
