Dishman Construction Testimonial

Dishman Construction Testimonial

By Ben Watters

In the construction business, there are two ways to learn: 1. Go to school and get a degree in Construction Technology or 2. Work under a skilled tradesman as an apprentice. It was as an apprentice Kerry Dishman began his construction career. The only caveat, his mentor was his father who encouraged a young Kerry to learn some of all trades.

Kerry had always been an entrepreneur. In school, his first build was a chicken coop so he could sell their eggs, and he sold fishing worms he collected off the side of the road. Young Kerry was also that guy on the school bus selling candy for profit to his schoolmates.

The first official trade for Kerry after high school was in the HVAC business, which helped Kerry better understand the process of building. Soon Kerry found himself working in a factory for G.E. but while there, started a framing crew as a “side hustle”. As often happens in our business, this “side hustle” was more lucrative than G.E was. As the framing business grew, Kerry made the decision to quit G.E. and frame full time.

As framing turned into complete builds, Kerry prided himself by being on the job and completing as many trades as possible. Kerry especially loves the finishing touches as the home comes together. As the builder, Kerry feels by being on the job, he can create the consistent finished product today’s home buyers want.

Dishman Construction now specializes in home building, remodeling, and land development with farming to balance his portfolio.

With family roots that run deep, Kerry remembers all the principles that his father taught him: hard work and finish what you start. Kerry said “Subcontractors and people you surround yourself with are what makes the finished product. It’s a team effort.” Maybe that’s why he likes to purchase from Bender Lumber? Salesman Terry Davis and Store Manager Ed Craig work hard to help Kerry stay on the job. Just a phone call gets the Bender Lumber team moving, with most deliveries coming within 24 hours.

Dishman Construction started with family and will continue with family as both of Kerry’s sons, Adam and Buck, are now working under Kerry as apprentices. As they learn, Kerry will turn more and more of the business over to them while he manages the other business, Dishman Cattle Company. You just can’t stop can you Kerry?

At Bender Lumber, we are glad to have Kerry as a long-time loyal customer. His future is promising just as it is for Bender Lumber.
