Artists use all kinds of methodology to express their creativity. Robert Shetterley of Above the Grade Concrete considers every project his canvas with concrete his medium.

Robert spent many years behind a bull float working on the production side of the concrete business. He honed his skills but also felt there could be so much more to concrete than just laying huge slabs for General Contractors. 

With his dream in mind, Robert took a job with Steve Harriman who specialized in stamped and decorative concrete. As the job supervisor but with Steve as his mentor, Robert was able to learn and express his creativity while making masterpieces. After three years and realizing he had someone who could successfully manage his business Steve saw the opportunity to turn it all over to Robert. 

Robert is assisted by his wife Lisa who contributes as much by producing estimates and bookkeeping so Robert can stay, “on the job”. Without her help Robert simply could not maneuver through each day. Lisa not only frees Robert to be creative, but they often complement each other.

Robert, as a longtime resident of Bloomington, relates to the local community. He has purchased from Bender Lumber his whole life as his father did before.
