Paint Problems: Peeling
Most cases of peeling and blistering are caused by excessive moisture. Moisture can accumulate throughout a house from walls, bathrooms, clothes dryers, kitchen appliances, even our own breathing. If a house is constructed without adequate ventilation, this moisture will pass through the walls to the exterior. To solve peeling and blistering problems you must fix the paint AND fix the source of the moisture. To fix the paint, choose an appropriate primer and latex house paint. To fix the moisture problem, you need to identify the source of the water - a leaky pipe or possibly not enough ventilation - and correct it. Most exterior peeling related problems begin because of moisture from the inside of the house travelling through the walls to the outside. You may need to install vents and exhaust fans, or re-caulk around doors and windows.
